To be honest, I meant to make this update last night however I fell asleep listening to jazz albums on the couch at about 11 PM. This makes sense though because earlier in the evening I was invited to a pot-luck dinner at JP and Bridget’s house. They held one last week for Bridget’s birthday and it was quite a turn-out and an even bigger selection of incredible food. This past week we did not have quite as many takers, but still had a wonderful meal despite this. It was an Asian theme, complete with home-made potstickers, noodles, a tofu and a green bean medley. The Coup de Grâce however was Alex’s dessert, which is pictured on the left of this post. He brought a custard complete with fresh strawberries and blueberries, topped with homemade whipped cream and a homemade caramel finish. As you can tell by the looks of it, it was pretty freaking amazing, as most everything I’ve had from him typically is. Also on the topic of eating like a king, I enjoyed a wonderful meal with Claire last night at Taka. It has been months since we have seen each other, let alone us eating at Taka together. We decided to do something a little different, and we went all out by sitting at the bar and having omakase service. In addition to having some things I knew he would prepare for me, and I know I would enjoy it caused me to have dishes outside of the realm of things I would ordinarily think to order. The final dish was a fried pork tenderloin, which, by the time it came out I was too full of sake and other food to enjoy. According to Claire it was amazing, and I brought my portion home as leftovers, and even a day later it was still pretty good — which is tough to say for most fried foods. I don’t think I will ever get enough of my experiences at Taka, especially the ones I’ve had over the past year. Everything about the experience is always phenomenal. Finally, on the food front, a lot of people around me have been talking about the burgers at Flip, a new upscale burger spot in Atlanta conceptualized by Richard Blais. I’m quite interested to try a number of the items on their menu, especially the Kobe Beef burger and am going to make an excursion that way tonight with some friends to see what it’s all about. If you are in the Atlanta area tonight and want to join us, let me know, the more the merrier! (Update: Planning FAIL – Closed Sundays)
