It’s been quite an eventful weekend with the sake tasting on Thursday night, the debate Friday night, The Presets & Cut Copy last night, and JapanFest today.

Last night was pretty interesting, it is the first time in a long time I had made my way into the “Heaven” section of The Masquerade to see any music. It was packed, but since it’s still a relatively small venue I ran into a bunch of former co-workers and friends. I am a big fan of The Presets having played a lot of their stuff in my dj sets of the past year, and had heard a bit of Cut Copy but last night was my first heavy-duty exposure to them. I will say I was impressed however still by the end of the night walked away still a bigger fan of The Presets. Thanks to Le Castle Vania for putting on a stellar show last night.

Today, Billy, Katie, Libby and myself all headed up to the Gwinnett Civic Center to check out JapanFest. Apparently it’s an annual event here in town but unfortunately for me this is the first year I have heard about it. Taka had been mentioning it for the past few weeks on his website, and had the sake tasting as an addendum to it at his restaurant. Despite being a little different than I would have expected it was still pretty enjoyable. Taka was there, and I tried a cooked mackerel in a miso broth he had prepared, it was pretty delicious. In addition, Billy also had me try onigiri. I ran into the people who hosted the sake event from earlier in the week and tried a different sake that was good, but not quite up to the Way Of Sake I had earlier in the week. I talked myself out of buying a plush domokun, and instead ended up leaving with a set of nice chopsticks, an assortment of Japanese junk foods, a box of Pocky, a couple of noodle and miso bowls since I am now out of money after last night and today, and a tamagotchi.

Thanks to Libby for hooking up the free tickets for JapanFest — definitely an awesome way to end an action-packed weekend!

Post-Script: Does anybody want to get me a miso machine like the one pictured above? That would be awesome, thanks!
